Today we feature a grand Berkeley colonial revival by Walter Ratcliff. As we’ve discussed before, Ratcliff was a leading contributor to the development of both the City of Berkeley as well as the University. This beautiful home on Claremont Boulevard features the amalgamation of sometimes divergent details that Ratcliff was known for. The home is by no means a pure colonial revival, but rather has colonial features as well as prairie and craftsman features. This is part of the fun of Ratcliff’s buildings. Of particular note in this home are the lavish paneled entry and living room with its enormous fireplace with bracketed mantle and box beam ceiling.
