This post and beam mid-century designed by San Francisco architect Edward Hicks feels rather closed and defensible from the street with its wide, low-slung gable which turns down over the entrance and its orderly row of small windows. Inside, however, the home takes on an entirely different persona. It is full of wide open spaces and large expanses of glass that open the house to views over the surrounding hills. There is ample exposed wood and an impressive fireplace which together create a sense of warmth not at all predicted by the relatively cold façade.
