Jim Gibbon currently works as a corporate architect for Safeway, but he previously had his own firm in Walnut Creek that was probably best known for designing a rather infamous home for MC Hammer in Fremont in the early 90s. The house we feature today was built about a decade prior to that and it is an interesting transitional period piece with elements from the late mid-century woodsy vernacular favored in the 70s combined with the clean lines and geometric shapes more prevalent in the 80s. Gibbon designed the home for himself and in some ways it feels quite eclectic and personal, but this singularity of intent is in the end what makes it unusually compelling.
