951 Longridge, Oakland

Last week we posted a great William Schirmer Spanish colonial on Longridge in Crocker Highlands and today we have another great home to share just down the street. This particular home is in the Tudor vernacular and though no attribution is provided in the listing, it seems quite possible that it could also be the work of William Schirmer. It has a certain complexity of embellishment and overabundance of gables that were common trademarks of his work. It also bears some striking similarities in room layout and massing to another Schirmer Tudor that sold in Piedmont earlier in the year. Regardless of who designed it however, it remains above all, another great example of the period revival architecture on a grand scale for which Crocker Highlands is best known.

I live in a Schirmer home in Berkeley and have been inside this home in Crocker Highlands. I agree that it has many of the same details and embellishments as my home and could very possibly be designed by Schirmer – a wonderful and under-appreciated architect (IMHO).
