True adobe construction is not particularly common in Northern California, but slump bricks as they became known later enjoyed a resurgence of popularity during the 50s. It is for that reason that we encounter this unusual modernist example in Pleasant Hill. It is an interesting combination of traditional building techniques with a mid-century desire to open the home to the outdoors. The result is a series of compelling spaces that maintain a southwestern flavor without the large expanses of unglazed walls that are necessary for comfort in warmer climes.
