Our home du jour is a modest Southwest Berkeley shingle bungalow with a bonus house in tow. Back in the days before strict building codes it was not uncommon for two houses to be built on a single lot to accommodate two branches of the same extended family. Today, these properties are more commonly used as duplexes with a bit of extra separation, but either way, this home’s plentiful original woodwork which includes an unusually wide band at the picture rail level makes it an interesting opportunity.
