Elizabeth Austin received her license to practice architecture a few short years after Julia Morgan, making her one of the earliest Bay Area women licensed in the field. She would go on to design over thirty homes in San Francisco as well as a number on our side of the bay. Her mature style is probably best classified as period revival, though the quiet beauty and simplicity of her detailing makes some of her work feel a bit like very early modernism. Such is the case with the home that we feature today. Its clean lines and minimal ornamentation feel quite prescient in a home that was built in 1927.
