170 Roble, Oakland

This impressive Oakland home is the work of local East Bay architect William Dutcher. It was built in 1995 and it is a relatively restrained combination of postmodern and new modern with thoughtfully detailed spaces and considered material choices. The Oakland Hills fire of 1991 resulted in a large number of homes being built in a relatively short period of time, many of which look very similar. There are however a few like this one that stand out as excellent examples of the best design at the end of the twentieth century.
