1907 Curtis, Berkeley

This Berkeley prairie box has a pretty typical floor plan and interior detailing, but the façade is unusually vertical. Prairie homes generally speaking have a decidedly horizontal emphasis, so it is quite unusual to see one this tall and narrow. It looks a bit like a widely copied Frank Lloyd Wright house that was published in Ladies’ Home Journal in 1907, but of course some copies are more accurate than others and this one is a particular stretch (so to speak).
