Mario Corbett was already a celebrity in architectural terms when this impressive Kensington mid-century was built in 1946. His father was a well-respected architect in Southern California and the younger Corbett’s designs were also published widely in the architectural press of the day as early as the 1930s. Mario Corbett began experimenting with modernism in the early 40s and by the end of the war when this home was built, his aesthetic was quite mature. Already here we can see his keen eye for balance and thoughtful massing as well as his interesting juxtapositions of material and texture.
