1104 King, El Cerrito

This charming El Cerrito ranch is a bit reminiscent of William Wurster’s work in the early 40s with its carefully placed oversized windows and rustic simplicity. The exterior of the home is clad with unfinished vertical board and batten siding and it blends quite seamlessly into the surrounding terrain. Inside, the siding is horizontal with wide bands of wood framing the views captured in the large glazed openings. It is a particularly early and thoughtful example of a type of home that would become all too familiar in the years after the war.
