Alfred W Smith was possibly the most prolific architect in the East Bay at the start of the last century and much of his success derived from his uncanny ability to move fluidly between styles as tastes changed. Unlike many of his contemporaries he was able to transition smoothly from high Victorian designs through colonial revival, craftsman, and even some period revival. This particular home is a handsome shingle with fairly understated but tasteful detailing. It is easy to see why he remained so busy throughout his long career.
