The Howard and Irene Schnabel house is an intriguing redwood-clad saltbox home designed by Carl Fox of Fox Brothers. The Fox Brothers are perhaps best known for the pair of storybook bungalow courts that they designed and built along University Avenue; Fox Court and Fox Common. This home was built at roughly the same time as Fox Common but it is much less flamboyant with a reduction of embellishment bordering on modernist. It is a compelling example of the breadth of styles tackled by the Fox Brothers across Berkeley.
