1142 Arch, Berkeley

Today we feature an impressive Berkeley mid-century attributed to an architect named Bearden. There was a Walter Bearden who practiced in Oakland around this time, but he does not seem to have done much residential work and we are not familiar with any other homes that he may have designed. Regardless of authorship though, this particular residence is exceptionally well executed with exposed masonry and wood, lit soffits and walls of glass opening the home to the expansive views outside. It is clearly the work of an accomplished designer well versed in the architectural idioms of the day.
