There are only a handful of Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the Bay Area so it is a rare treat whenever one comes on the market. Particularly one so beautifully preserved as is the Mathews house. It is one of Wright’s Usonian homes which were typically of a single story and based on a simple geometric grid. In this case the grid is triangular which makes for some especially interesting spaces both inside and out. All of Wright’s storied attention to detail and enormous creativity is on display here and still as inspiring today as it was when the home was new.
